Enjoy the Region

The Mansfield and Loudonville areas are the heart of unlimited year round activities. Your adventure can range from wild to mild!

If you have a need for speed, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course may have your ticket. A premier motor sports destination and world class facility, that brings a wide range of racing interests to the area including: The Vintage Grand Prix, AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, Superbike Weekend, The Honda Indy 200, and The NASCAR Nationwide 200. If you would rather ‘do’ than watch, Mid-Ohio Driving School puts ‘you’ in the driver’s seat.

How about going to Jail? Experience prison from the inside out at the historic Ohio State Reformatory. Various tours of the facility give you an insider’s perspective of life as a convicted criminal. Hollywood immortalized it as shooting locations for several movies including the classic Shawshank Redemption. The giant oak tree where Andy buried a secret stash for his prison pal Red, is located within walking distance from Malabar Farm.

A visit to the area would not be complete without a stop at the Pleasant Valley home of Pulitzer Prize winning author and conservationist Louis Bromfield. A tour of Malabar, an operating farm complete with the requisite animals and crops, is an opportunity to see firsthand the forward looking vision of its founder. No visit would be complete without a tour of the 32 room ‘Big House’ where many Hollywood celebrities were hosted, and notably the marriage of Bogie and Bacall.  A must do drive up the winding lane to the top of Mt. Jeez would cap your visit.

Just down the road from Valleyview is the town of Loudonville, the ‘Canoe Capital of Ohio’. There are six canoe liveries to choose from and trips of various lengths to suit your skills and abilities. If paddling is not your interest jump in a tube and let the river do the work. This area also includes miniature golf, go-karting, zip-lining, and mountain biking trails.

Other adventures might include a day hike at Mohican State Forest, skiing and tubing at Snow Trails or Clear Fork Ski resorts, a round of golf at nearby public courses such as The Woods at Possum Run, Deer Ridge, or Pleasant Hill, or a bike ride/walk on the 18.5 mile   B & O Bike Trail (rentals are available).
